SongForge: Contact (Session 3: Jan. 21st- Feb. 25th)

Songforge: Contact is the advanced six-week creative Songforge workshop focusing on choreography, movement, and physical composition. This session explores Viewpoints as a framework for creating musical improv through space, time, shape, and ensemble awareness. Contact is a physically driven musical experience where connection sparks everything. A body moves, another responds. Shape becomes rhythm, repetition becomes pattern, and the space between performers becomes part of the composition.

Using the principles of Viewpoints, performers will explore how tempo, duration, kinesthetic response, spatial relationships, and architecture can generate movement—and how that movement can become music. Rather than beginning with story, the ensemble learns to let the space, the body, and the collective impulse generate the material. Movement becomes rhythm, rhythm becomes sound, and sound becomes song as choreography and music are forged from the same impulse.
